Royal Romances! All About the ‘Wolf Hall’ Cast’s Real-Life Loves
The long-awaited sequel to the 2016 hit Wolf Hall is upon us. There’s plenty of royal intrigue, power moves, and betrayals happening inside King Henry VIII’s court in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light.
It’s been nearly a decade since the first season aired on PBS. The second season picks up in the aftermath of Anne Boleyn’s death and follows the final four years of George Cromwell’s life, one of the most powerful figures of the Tudor era. Both seasons are based on Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall novels.
The incredible ensemble cast includes many notable British actors. In anticipation of the premiere, we’re doing a deep dive into the real-life romances of the Wolf Hall cast.

Damian Lewis
Damian Lewis may play King Henry VIII, but his love life is far less tumultuous. The actor has been in a relationship with singer Alison Mosshart since 2022. He was previously married to actress Helen McCrory. They were married from 2007 until McCrory’s death from cancer in 2021. They have two kids together.
Kate Phillips
Kate Phillips is pulling double duty with Wolf Hall and Miss Scarlet in 2025. She reprises her old as Jane Seymour in the royal drama. Phillips is quite private about her personal life. Her long-term partner is actor Oliver Chris. They have a daughter together.
Mark Rylance
Mark Rylance returns to the role of Thomas Cromwell in the second season of Wolf Hall. The Oscar winner married Claire Van Kampen in 1989. Rylance was a stepfather to her two daughters. Van Kampen died of cancer on January 18, 2025, Rylance’s 71st birthday.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays Ralph Sadler, found love on the set of the series Pistol. Brodie-Sangster and actress Talulah Riley married in 2022. Riley was previously married to Elon Musk.
Harriet Walter
Harriet Walter stars as Lady Margaret Pole in the period drama. The British actress has been married to Guy Paul since 2011. She was previously married to actor Peter Blythe from 1996 until his death in 2004.
Timothy Spall
Timothy Spall takes over for the late Bernard Hill as the Duke of Norfolk in Wolf Hall Season 2. Spall and his wife, Shane, married in 1981. They have three kids together, including actor Rafe Spall.
Jonathan Pryce
Jonathan Pryce is back as Cardinal Wolsey in the second and final season. He met his now-wife, Kate Fahy, in 1972, but they didn’t get married until 2015. They’ve welcomed three children throughout their relationship.
Alex Jennings
Alex Jennings steps in for Mark Gatiss as Stephen Gardiner in Season 2. The actor has been married to Lesley Moors since 2012. They have two children.
Charlie Rowe
Tom Holland played Gregory Cromwell in the first season, but Charlie Rowe is assuming the role in Season 2. Rowe keeps his romantic life out of the spotlight. It’s unclear what his relationship status is in 2025.
Harry Melling
Harry Melling will play Thomas Wriothesley in Season 2 after Joel MacCormack played the role in the first season. Not much is known about the Harry Potter alum’s personal life. He doesn’t have social media account
