Fangs, blood trickling down someone’s neck, and superhuman speed characterize the often thought-about mythological creatures known as vampires. Yet, through all that scariness, an adoration combined with (more than a little) lust has formed for many people across the world as the vampire fandom has grown.

Long gone are the days when the Twilight craze was so big that certain individuals tried drinking their significant other’s blood, but the vampire hype is still very much alive (even though vampires are very much not). Over the years, there have been plenty of vampire couples to grace our TV screens that have gotten us all wrapped up in their heightened romance.

But which TV couples reign supreme among the vampire pairings? In honor of Halloween, here is Swooon’s ranking of 10 vampire couples. (Note: This ranking includes full vampire couples and pairings with at least one vampire partner.)

10. Klaus and Caroline, The Vampire Diaries

Although technically not a real couple, this twosome had too much chemistry not to be included.

Yes, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) wronged all of her closest friends and confidants, but his soft spot for Caroline (Candice King) was just too powerful to be ignored. Their interactions allowed The Vampire Diaries viewers to see that the original vamp wasn’t all bad. His personality had some redeeming qualities as well.

Sadly, their connection was never fully explored, so for that, they had to come in last place. Yet, their one steamy tryst will never be forgotten by Klaroline lovers.

9. Elijah and Hayley, The Originals

Okay, let’s talk about complicated. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) clearly loved each other. However, pretty much everything worked against them.

There was that pesky little werewolf–vampire thing, but sure, they could get past that. Then, there was Hayley having Klaus’ baby and all. Lastly, she married Jackson before she gave her relationship with Elijah a shot.

All was resolved in the end as the werewolf-turned-hybrid-turned-vampire and original vampire realized that their romantic connection was just too strong to deny. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see more of it.

8. Cal and Juliette, First Kill

The short-lived Netflix series First Kill got mixed reviews, though everyone who watched it can agree on one thing.

The relationship between Cal (Imani Lewis) and Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) was everything. The star-crossed lovers both had dilemmas about whether to fulfill their family’s legacies or choose to go down a different path. They confided in each other as their love blossomed.

Sure, the reality of a relationship between a vampire and a monster hunter isn’t an easy one. Cal and Juliette defied the odds to be together.

7. Buffy and Angel, Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Another slayer-vampire duo that made the list: Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Angel (David Boreanaz).

For someone whose entire life’s mission was to fight monsters, Buffy sure had a tendency to fall in love with them. Her true love, Angel, and fling, Spike (James Marsters), were both vampires. Unable to do anything about her feelings, she decided to just embrace to them — after some serious back-and-forth.

When she realized there was nothing she could do to change her feelings, she figured out a way to fraternize with the cursed vampire she was supposed to hate. This steamy love affair saw many twists and turns, but there was also some real happiness in their time together.

6. Eric and Sookie, True Blood

Were you Team Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) or Bill (Stephen Moyer)?

This debate often got fans of True Blood riled up, but I am 100% Team Eric. For one, their chemistry was so much hotter. Even though he started out as a less-than-nice character, he dropped all of that evil just to protect Sookie (Anna Paquin). She made him change his less-than-desired ways and helped him embrace a human side of himself he thought was long dead.

Even though Sookie and Eric didn’t up together, they truly loved each other.

5. Laszlo and Nadja, What We Do In The Shadows

These two have lived together for centuries, and no matter what, they still love each other. At times slightly dysfunctional, Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) remain the definition of couple goals. Never leaving the other one in the dust, the twosome makes it very clear that eternity’s a ball when they’re together. With tons of inside jokes, risqué suggestions, and absurd plans, the duo always keeps things exciting.

4. Caleb and Livvie, Port Charles

Michael Easton rocked Port Charles when he arrived as the mysterious and seductive vampire Caleb Morley. He was entranced by Livvie Locke (Kelly Monaco), who was a doppelganger of his long-lost love Olivia. Easton and Monaco had that once-in-a-generation kind of chemistry. Port Charles was a daytime soap, but Caleb and Livvie’s romance was steamy enough for primetime. Port Charles had a short-lived run, but Caleb and Livvie’s relationship will go down as one of daytime’s sexiest supercouples.

3. Louis and Lestat, Interview with the Vampire

Finally, Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) are getting the recognition they deserve. The movie version of Interview with the Vampire didn’t explore the romantic connection between the duo, and fans of the series are happy it is finally happening.

At times, they are dysfunctional (that’s an understatement), and there have been points where it seems like they’ll never be able to return to any resemblance of a normal loving relationship, yet the chemistry always remains.

There’s still so much to see about what will happen between these two in Season 3 of the television series, but there’s no denying that they are soulmates.

2. Lily and Herman, The Munsters

Squabbles and all, Lily (Yvonne De Carlo) and Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne) were the epitome of a strong and loving union.

More of a traditional household than some of the other couples on this list, besides, of course, the whole monster part of it all, these two proved that even the creatures of the night need some love in their lives.

Often shown as equals, The Munsters was ahead of its time with Lily and Herman’s love story.

1. Damon and Elena, The Vampire Diaries

The love triangle between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and the Salvatore brothers resembled the one Katherine (Dobrev) had meddled in a century before, yet one thing was fundamentally different: Elena actually loved both of them.

Elena fell for both Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), so she had some major debates about who her person was supposed to be. Yet, her choice became clear when she realized who she could be her true self around, vampire and all.

Sure, Damon had his faults, but he would do anything and everything for Elena. The same could be said for her. Way before they became romantically involved, Elena was the one to trust Damon and got him included in the group.

Also, have you seen the chemistry these two characters have? That alone should give them the first spot. Despite every imaginable challenge thrown their way, Damon and Elena’s love prevailed. Their love story will go down in TV vampire romance history.
