‘You’ Boss Reacts to Theories That Love Quinn Is Still Alive

[Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for You Season 5.]
There was only one person who could match Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) freak, and that was Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). Joe fell for Love in You Season 2, and she understood him on a level no one else could. She accepted his murderous ways and even partook in some herself, all in the name of love. Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Not quite.
In Season 3, Joe’s obsession turned to Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), which was the beginning of the end of Joe and Love’s wolfish romance. Joe had started to see even more of himself in Love, which only led him further astray. Joe killed Love in the Season 3 finale by poisoning her with a lethal dose of aconite, a paralytic she had used on him earlier. Joe constructed the perfect murder-suicide ruse, making it appear as if Love had killed herself, Joe, and burned down their house.
In TV world, if you don’t see a body, there’s a chance the character could still be alive. Naturally, fans rallied and hoped that Love could somehow rise again from the ashes, quite literally. That didn’t happen, but her icon status will live on forever. You co-showrunner Michael Foley revealed to Swooon whether or not there was ever a discussion about resurrecting Love Quinn.

“I loved that character. I want to say more than anyone, but I loved that character. Loved working with Victoria Pedretti. It just felt like the right story move, and as told, it just didn’t make sense to bring her back into the show,” he said. “If somebody put a gun to my head and said, make another You show… I used to joke on set that the moment that Joe kills Love at the end of Season 3, we jump into her voiceover, and she starts to speak to the delusion, like this guy so deluded that he’s probably going to think he’s going to get away with this run off to London and chase Marianne, and we find ourselves on her show. If forced to do it, that’s my show, right?”
He added, “Point being, I would love to work with Victoria Pedretti. Again, we’d love to work with that character. I read these things that the fans say about wanting Victoria and hating us for killing her, but by the way, we’re going to do what’s best for story, and that’s ultimately what we said was best for story.”
Love did return in Season 4 in the form of a hallucination, but that’s it. In another life, Love got her revenge. Justice for the Mistress of Madre Linda!
