Kaelynn Partlow appeared on Season 1 of Love on the Spectrum in 2022 and is now spilling some behind-the-scenes secrets from the show. In a Q&A video, Partlow revealed whether she and her fellow cast members get paid for their participation in the dating series.

The topic has also been broached by the show’s executive producer Cian O’Clery in the past.

Partlow confirmed that she was not paid for Love on the Spectrum, but added, “They were very upfront about that being the case. It wasn’t a surprise.”

O’Clery revealed to Parade that cast members do not receive compensation. However, their dates and transportation to the dates that are featured on the show are paid for by production. “People aren’t left out of pocket by being part of the experience, that’s all I can say,” he shared.

The show follows people on the autism spectrum exploring dating, and its third U.S. season premiered earlier this month. Of the casting process, O’Clery explained, “We develop relationships with various organizations, support groups, communities and individuals, and just put the call out. We send out flyers that explain who we are and what we’re doing, and if you’re interested in meeting with us and talking about it, get in touch. Lots and lots of people write in.”

Partlow was not asked back after her stint on the show in Season 1. “They said my story had already been told, and I could continue telling my own story on social media.”

While the cast members are not paid to be on the show, many of them develop large social media followings, which can likely lead to avenues for compensation later on. Season 3 features nine main cast members, including Dani Bowman, James Jones, and Abbey Romeo, who have all been on the show since Season 1.
