‘Love Is Blind’: Lauren O’Brien Reveals Dave Bettenburg Still Hasn’t Apologized for Season 8 Drama

Lauren O’Brien and Dave Bettenburg’s relationship outside of the pods floundered, and they’ve been open about their tumultuous romance since their split. Hopping on Season 4’s Zach Goytowski and Bliss Poureetezadi Goytowski’s podcast, Blind Love With Zach & Bliss, O’Brien revealed where she stands now with her ex-fiancé.
Although she admitted to having “forgiven” him, the 32-year-old confessed that it hasn’t been an easy journey. “So that’s I think the hardest part about this. He has taken ‘accountability’ for the surface-level thing of not believing me and listening to his friends over me,” O’Brien revealed. “But I don’t think feel like there’s accountability over I tried to embarrass you on national television, essentially, or I made you the scapegoat in this.”
To this day, Bettenburg has still not provided her with an actual apology. “I feel like he thinks he has taken this accountability of it, but I have never gotten a phone call, in-person, off camera [saying], ‘I’m sorry for how I hurt you in this.'”
O’Brien added, “I think there’s a ‘I should have listened to you and not my friends,’ but I think there’s a big difference between ‘I screwed this up,’ and ‘I didn’t handle this well,’ and ‘I am sorry to you.'”
When asked about what she reckoned Bettenburg’s thought pattern was like while filming the Netflix series, O’Brien was quick to open up. “I genuinely think he thought, even maybe up until recently, until the episodes started coming out, that I was going to be the one, honestly, bullied online for going into this having a boyfriend,” she said.
During the Season 8 reunion, Bettenburg said he “absolutely” regretted listening to his friends about what they were saying about O’Brien. He admitted that O’Brien was the one who got away. “I think about it all the time,” he said. As for O’Brien, she didn’t think her ex was being completely genuine. She noted that Bettenburg’s “made no effort to show that in any capacity.”
