Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Reveal Surprising Change That Improved Their Marriage

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos love to talk about their marriage on Live with Kelly and Mark. As the cohosts of the daytime talk show, their relationship is a popular topic.
During the April 14 episode of the show, Ripa and Consuelos discussed a recent change in habits that’s actually helped their marriage. The All My Children alums have been married since 1996.
“I’m officially hooked on golf. I watched the Masters,” Consuelos said on the show. “Kelly, thank you for letting me … but not having a problem with me watching 16 hours of golf over four days.”
Ripa was fine with her husband being distracted by the golf tournament in Augusta. The mom of three quipped that she “had my own life going on.” The couple spoke with their former All My Children costar Cameron Mathison during the episode and brought up the annual golf tournament.
Ripa pointed out that Consuelos had turned into a “golf expert” and revealed this change in hobbies has been “good for our marriage.” Consuelos added with a laugh, “She’s like, ‘You’re going to be gone for five hours? Go!'”
The cohosts recently moved from Live’s longtime residence of 7 Lincoln Square to 7 Hudson Square. Ripa and Consuelos opened up about how the original studio location saved their relationship. They had broken up for a period of time in 1996 and had to appear on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee for a Mother’s Day special. “We both tried to get out of it, but we both ended up being here on this stage,” Ripa told PEOPLE.
Consuelos continued, “Obviously, seeing her, it was like, ‘This is the worst decision of my life. I have to be with her forever.’ And I asked her to marry me, and we flew to Vegas the next day.” The rest is history!
