Emma Corrin & Jack Lowden to Lead ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Series — Do You Approve? (POLL)
Step aside, Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. There’s a new Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in town.
Netflix is developing a new Pride and Prejudice limited series, with Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden starring in the leading roles. Corrin will play the clever and independent Lizzie alongside Lowden’s portrayal of the brooding romantic hero Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Corrin rose to fame playing a young Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown, which nabbed them the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Pride and Prejudice will reunite Corrin with Olivia Colman, who starred as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown and will play Mrs. Bennet in the six-episode limited series.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Corrin said in a statement. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
Lowden is currently starring in the Apple TV+ hit Slow Horses, which recently earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
The Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel will be written by famous author Dolly Alderton. Corrin will also executive produce. Alderton called Pride and Prejudice the “blueprint for romantic comedy” and promised to “find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
There have been several Pride and Prejudice adaptations over the years. Knightley and Macfadyen starred in Joe Wright’s stunning 2005 adaptation. Thirty years ago this year, Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle played Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth in the beloved BBC limited series.
