Anyone But You costars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell recently made headlines with their meet-up in Dallas, Texas.

The actors made us swoon with their flirty banter during the Anyone But You press tour, but now fans are wondering if there’s something more going on between them now that Sweeney has just broken off her engagement with Jonathan Davino.

Shortly after the news was announced, Sweeney attended the wedding of Leslie Powell, the Hit Man‘s star sister. Days after the celebration, the Twisters star was asked to weigh in about all the speculation.

As a guest on Today with Jenna & Friends on April 2, the 36-year-old actor was quickly asked, “The wedding caused a little bit of a stir. Did that surprise you?”

Powell said with a laugh, “You know, timing is everything in this world. [Leslie] and Syd are obviously great friends, and it was a hell of a wedding.” The actor further shared that the wedding was “such a fun, rowdy” time and stated, “The Powells know how to crank it up!”

He was not the first member of his family to speak up about the romance rumors. The Top Gun: Maverick alum’s mother, Cyndy Powell, opened up to the Daily Mail and denied that he and Sweeney were more than friends. “They’re definitely not together,” she said, “[There is] nothing going on behind closed doors.”

Admitting that the whole family grew “really close” to Sweeney, she continued, “We love Sydney. We’ve considered her just a really, really good friend.” Mama Powell divulged, “We all were together so much, and we haven’t seen her in a long time. She’s really a friend, and we all enjoy her.”

Determined to explain that Sweeney wasn’t her son’s date, she said that Sweeney had RSVP’d “a long time” ago with her best friend as her plus-one.

Gushing over her son, she told the outlet, “He’s the kindest person, and he is so others-oriented. He loves his family, he loves his friends.” She added, “And Sydney is a friend. They’ve been friends for so long. They’ve known each other for so long, and they’ve both been single and together and with other people.”
