‘General Hospital’s Genie Francis Praises Lucky & Liz’s ‘Popular’ Romance

General Hospital star Genie Francis knows a thing or two about soap supercouples. For the Spencer family, supercouples are a family tradition.
Jonathan Jackson returned to the long-running soap in 2024 after nearly a decade away, and Francis is thrilled to have her onscreen son back in Port Charles. The soap veteran opened up about Jackson’s return and Lucky’s longtime romance with Liz (Rebecca Herbst).
“Jonathan’s been great; it’s been such a treat. My only disappointment is that I haven’t had many scenes with him. They’ve played him with Elizabeth [Webber] so much because that’s such a popular couple, and it makes sense,” she told TV Insider. “He’s a grown man. He wouldn’t be around his mommy all the time, but I wish I had more scenes with him.”
Similar to Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura, Lucky and Liz have a long and storied history in Port Charles. They fell in love as teenagers over two decades ago, and there’s always been an unwavering connection between them — even with Lucky coming in and out of town over the years.
However, these two have never fallen out of orbit with each other. Lucky risked his life to save Liz and ended up in a coma. When he opened his eyes, Liz was there at his bedside and kissed him.
While this lip lock could have been written off as just getting caught up in the nostalgia of an ex, that’s not the case with these two. “Liz and Lucky are different,” GH writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten to Soap Opera Digest. “Neither has ever loved another like they’ve loved each other. Their feelings for each other are as vibrant now as they ever were. It’s just that fate always intervened.”
