‘Onyx Storm’ Spicy Chapters: Your Guide to Violet & Xaden’s Sexiest Moments

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros cover

[Warning: The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for Onyx Storm.]

The love for Onyx Storm hasn’t wavered since its release in January 2025. After over a year of waiting, Rebecca Yarros finally blessed readers with the third book in her Empyrean series. Violet and Xaden faced their biggest battles yet, but despite everything, there were still quite a few spicy moments in between the chaos.

This is Rebecca Yarros we’re talking about, so we knew there would be some blush-inducing scenes to read (and reread). At the beginning of the novel, the author does include a warning of “graphic language” and “sexual activities” for readers who are sensitive to those elements.

Since Onyx Storm continues to dominate the reading world (it’s Swooon’s highest-selling romance book of February!), Swooon has your full guide to the spicy chapters in Onyx Storm, so you can commit them to memory or steer clear — whatever your preference may be!

Chapter 3 (Pages 31-34)

Unlike the other two Empyrean novels, Yarros gives us a spicy scene very early on between Violet and Xaden. The Chapter 3 scene is a bit graphic but brief. (Iron Flame didn’t have a spicy scene until Chapter 12!)

Chapter 12 (Pages 99-100)

Just a steamy kiss but that’s it!

Chapter 18 (Pages 158-159)

Another steamy kiss. Yarros really tested our limits here. It was a slow burn after the slow burn.

Chapter 25 (Pages 213-218)

This spicy scene was downright hot. Our only note is that we wish Violet and Xaden’s night hadn’t been interrupted.

Chapter 48 (Pages 403-409)

This entire chapter is basically a huge tease for the next one. There’s a lot of kissing and touching, but it’s pretty tame on the spicy scale.

Chapter 49 (Pages 410-413)

A full chapter dedicated to spicy. It’s short but effective. While we don’t get other spicy chapters after this, Xaden does allude to more sexy times with Violet later than night. Yarros just let our imagination do the rest.
