What Are ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Jake & Amy Up to Now? Melissa Fumero Weighs In

Missing Brooklyn Nine-Nine? (Always.) The beloved sitcom came to an end in 2021, but the love for the 99th Precinct remains.
While talking to Swooon about her latest project, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Melissa Fumero addressed some important Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy questions. The main couple of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will always have a special place in our hearts.
Almost four years have passed since we last saw Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago onscreen, but Fumero has a clear idea of what the two are up to now. “I would hope that she is captain now, youngest captain ever in the NYPD, because that was on her to-do list, and I bet Jake is doing cool consulting while also being a very supportive, mostly stay-at-home dad.”
She continued, “I think maybe they had a second kid by now, and they are kinda like living the dream, and maybe once in a while, they hop into special assignments and do cool stuff.”
One case they could investigate is the murder mystery in Grosse Pointe Garden Society. The 42-year-old actor joked, “Maybe they’ll end up in Michigan.” She added, “Stranger things have happened. I can play both characters.”
As she looked back at Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fumero was certainly game to talk about the iconic heist episode.
“I will never forget when Dan Goor, our creator and showrunner of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, called me so excited. He had to tell me the idea for that heist, which I think also even came in part from Mike Schur and his wife.”
Fumero admitted that “it was a really special day” filming the episode. “Halloween Heist” was also an important part of Jake and Amy’s love story. Jake proposed to Amy during one of the playful heists.
When asked if Fumero always knew her character would end up with Jake, she said, “I think I did know from Season 1 that that was probably where it was headed, but they were still trying to figure out the path to kind of take with it. How much to pursue the will-they-won’t-they and how much to go back and forth.”
She added, “I think at a certain point the decision was made, like, ‘Once we have you guys together you’re just going to be together, and you’re just going to have a healthy, fun relationship part of the show.” Reminiscing about the time, Fumero divulged that the decision was something she and Samberg loved.
“We did have so much fun with Jake and Amy as a couple. It didn’t feel like it got less interesting. They just kept finding funny, weird, quirky, kinky aspects of their relationship, which I loved and felt different than some other shows done to that point.”
