‘Love Is Blind’s Monica Danús Reveals Relationship Status & Addresses ‘Secret Boyfriend’ Rumor
Love Is Blind Season 8 star Monica Danús didn’t find her forever person through the experiment, but she’s not shying away from love. Monica was engaged to Joey Leveille after meeting in the pods, but she said “no” at the altar.
In the year since Season 8 was filmed, there have been a plethora of changes in Monica’s life. She’s currently dealing with the fallout of learning Sara Carton and Joey are now dating (they have not confirmed this publicly) and navigating post-show life. Swooon spoke with Monica about her dating life today and whether or not she’s seeing anyone special.
“I’m not currently dating right now,” Monica told Swooon. “There’s just so much going on, and I feel like I wouldn’t be showing up in my best self for somebody right now.”
The 29-year-old noted that she has tried to date after her breakup with Joey and brought up articles alleging she had a “secret boyfriend” and wanted “to set the record straight” about the situation.
“To be very clear, I did not have a secret boyfriend at all,” she stressed. “This was probably, I want to say, six months after filming ended. I had met one of Mason’s friends just in a group hangout, and we just started chatting, and we casually dated for two or three months in the summer. Things didn’t work out, and that was fine, and this was during the time when I wasn’t talking to Joey at all.”
When Monica and Joey were back on speaking terms, she told him about the guy she was casually dating because she “wanted to be cognizant of his feelings.” She added, “He knew all about it, not like he needed to, but I just wanted to be respectful of knowing that because we were engaged. But this was not a secret boyfriend.”
While Monica was upfront with her ex about her dating life, she has not heard from him at all since right before the reunion. According to Monica, Sara called her about dating Joey after the reunion, but Joey has yet to reach out.
Monica first started “questioning things” regarding Sara and Joey at the reunion. “It wasn’t aired actually, but Nick and Vanessa at the very end, they turned to Sara and said, ‘Hey, is anything going on with you and Joey?’ And I was shocked because that was the first time I had heard a question hinting at they were together, and it was at the reunion on camera. My heart sank,” Monica admitted.
