Where is Jay from?
Jay was born and raised in Florence, Alabama, and he still lives there on his farm today.
What type of farmer is Jay?
Jay is a hay and cattle farmer. He helps run a 515-acre hay and cattle farm in Alabama. His cousin owns the farm, and he helps run it.
“I’ve been farming for a while now, and I love it,” he told Rocket City Now. “It’s something I love to do. But we also have a big operation that we run, a cow-calf operation. Also, we sell hay as well. So it’s definitely fun, but we try to make some money off of it, too.”
Growing up, Jay’s grandfather had a 15-acre horse farm about five minutes away. Jay purchased that land after his grandfather’s death. “I got a horse, some dogs and chickens, but I will slowly expand on my cattle operation as well,” he dished.

Farm life is very important to Jay, who said that he’s looking for a woman who “isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty on the farm.”
What sport did Jay play?
Jay was a high school and college football star. After playing for Florence High School, he played for three years at the University of Michigan, then transferred to Duke where he played as a graduate student in 2021.
Although he had dreams of making to the NFL, he was derailed by injuries. “I love this game, but am I willing to sacrifice my body where ten years from now or five years from now I could hardly walk or lift my shoulder up, or even think, right?” he explained. “So I had to make that tough decision to hang up the cleats.”
What does Jay do?
In addition to farming, Jay also works as a sales rep. His job is remote, which is why he’s also able to work on the farm.
He graduated from Michigan with a degree in kinesiology. In grad school at Duke, he focused on business, which helps him run the farm. Jay graduated with a master of management studies from the Fuqua School of Business.
“I am a businessman at the end of the day,” he said. “You know, in this world, you have to be able to have some type of income come in and you want to make it make sense. With the operation, we have a cow-calf operation. So basically what that is, you let the cows have calves, and you let those calves get big, and you take them down [to] the sale barn and get the money.”
