‘Love Is Blind’s Monica Maintains Sara & Joey Are Dating: ‘I’m So Sick of the Lies’

Love Is Blind Season 8 is the gift that just keeps on giving. The reunion episode aired on March 9, and fans were pretty shocked by how much drama came out of what was otherwise a pretty chill season. The biggest revelations came from Ben Mezzenga, Sara Carton, Monica Danús, Joey Leveille. Sara called Ben out for ghosting her after they made plans for him to move to Nashville, and for later trying to make nice with her before the reunion, following advice from an ex-cast member.
Monica, on the other hand, accused Joey of basically faking their entire relationship and never giving her the same energy she gave him. Oh, and she also slammed him out for constantly pursuing Madison Errichiello, thinking she wouldn’t spill the tea to Monica.
But it turns out, the one to watch out for wasn’t Madison—it was Sara. In a new interview, Monica addressed the Joey and Sara dating rumors and revealed exactly what Sara told her about what’s really going on.
The whole Joey and Sara rumor started on Reality Receipts, when hosts Rikkii and Ashley mentioned they’d heard from “a few people” that the two were spotted together at a hair salon. Other sources “close to the situation” supposedly backed up the claim that Joey and Sara were an item. It seemed random, but maybe not so much, since Joey had previously shared on The Drive-In Podcast Network that Sara was his second-best connection in the pods. Plus, they sat together at the reunion, since neither of them got engaged and weren’t exactly on great terms with their exes. Sara shut down the rumor in the March 13 episode of The Viall Files. She said, “Well, to be clear, me and Joey are not dating.” She did admit there was a connection in the pods but insisted they only developed “a really great friendship.”
According to her, this friendship picked up again five months after filming ended. “Joey and five other people visited me in Nashville, and we called ourselves the ‘Yee-Haw Crew.’ It was such a good time,” Sara said. But while she admitted she was “fond” of the relationship, she made it clear, “We’re definitely not dating.” She added that she’s got “no capacity to even think about a relationship” right now.
Well, now Monica is calling her out. “I’m so sick of the lies. Just own up to it at this point,” Joey’s former fiancée told Elite Daily.
Monica had a lot to say to Joey at the reunion—mainly about his shady behavior toward Madison while they were still engaged. Joey even tried to spin it like Madison was coming on to him to stir things up between the women. But Monica had no reason to suspect that Joey was seeing Sara, especially since they were on good terms. Once the rumors started, Monica decided to go straight to the source.
“I texted Sara,” Monica explained. “‘I’m hearing a lot of things about you and Joey. Is there anything you need to tell me?’ And she called me and said, ‘Nothing’s official, but we are seeing each other.’ She said they didn’t want to make anything official until any online hate dies down.”
Monica added, “She told me this started a month ago, so that’s at least two months ago now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was longer. All this time when I was venting to her about Joey, and she was saying she had my back, she was actually with him.”
The timeline makes this whole thing even more hurtful for Monica. “It’s a betrayal, and it’s very hurtful,” Monica said. “It’s no surprise from Joey—I don’t think very highly of him, and I don’t want him in my life. But I’m hurt that Sara would do this to me.”
Sara had come out of Season 8 with pretty much no criticism. Fans loved how she stuck to her values and how close she was with her sister. To Monica, this whole betrayal seems totally out of character for her. Joey has yet to speak on the matter, but we’re hoping he refrains from making a joke just this once.
