Does ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3 Promo Confirm Belly’s Endgame?

The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s third and final season will premiere this summer, and fans have kept the hype for the show high by theorizing how it’ll all end for Belly (Lola Tung), Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). The Prime Video series is based on Jenny Han‘s bestselling trilogy, but the show has already deviated from the source material in various ways.
Will Belly’s endgame in the books be the same in the show? That is the question. When Prime Video announced the third season would be the last, the streamer released various promos of Belly solo. The marketing has fans wondering what the absence of the Fisher brothers means for Belly’s ending.
The promos include Belly in a butter yellow dress surrounded by yellow peonies, which happen to be Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) favorite flower. In the past, The Summer I Turned Pretty promos have featured Belly with Conrad and Jeremiah.

One fan, Brittany Paige, has a theory that Prime Video’s marketing is a red herring to make fans believe Belly will choose herself in the end. “I think Amazon is doing this to keep us on our toes,” she explained in a TikTok video. “I think the franchise knows there is such a strong following for Team Jeremiah. There’s been so much talk within fandom about whether or not Jenny is going to stick to book three.”

She continued, “What I think is happening is that they want us to think that Belly is going to choose herself. I actually predict that they’re going to make it seem like she did, but then right at the end, they’re going to do that flash forward scene and Belly and Conrad are going to be together.”
In We’ll Always Have Summer, Jeremiah and Belly are together, but their relationship hits a major road block when Jeremiah slept with someone else while they were briefly broken up. Things snowball from there, and Jeremiah proposes to Belly. They start planning their wedding, but Jeremiah ultimately knows that Belly’s not over his older brother. Jeremiah and Belly call off the wedding.
Belly’s technically alone at the end of the novel, but the epilogue reveals that she and Conrad reunited after feelings reignited while she was studying abroad. Belly and Conrad eventually get married.
Paige noted in her video that she “wouldn’t be surprised” if the show changed the timeline of Conrad and Belly’s reconciliation, and “they make it so Conrad reaches out to Belly like years and years later, like once she’s graduated, she’s in her mid 20s, like working in New York or something like that, as opposed to them getting together like while she’s still in college.”
When TSITP’s first season premiered, Han spoke openly about a three-season plan for the show and her hopes for the ending. “I would love to get three seasons because there are three books. So I would love to be able to finish telling that story the way that I wrote it,” she told Variety. (Sorry, Jeremiah girlies. The way she wrote it is a Conrad endgame!)
