Meet ‘American Idol’ Judge Carrie Underwood’s Husband & Learn About Their Love Story

Carrie Underwood burst onto the scene after winning Season 4 of American Idol in 2005, and 20 years later, she’s returning to the beloved singing competition as a judge. For the majority of her career, Underwood has been in a relationship with now-husband Mike Fisher.
The two got together in 2008 and tied the knot just two years later. They have spent more than 15 years building a life together and now reside outside of Nashville. Scroll down for everything we know about Fisher and the pair’s marriage.
Who is Mike Fisher?
Fisher is a retired NHL player. He began his professional hockey career with the Ottawa Senators during the 1999-2000 season. He was with the team for 11 years before being traded to the Nashville Predators in 2011.
In 2016, Fisher was named one of the Predators’ captains. That season, he helped lead his team to the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals, although they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He announced his retirement just weeks later in August 2017.
However, in January 2018, Fisher came out of retirement and began practicing with the Preds again. He signed a one-year contract the following month but retired for a second and final time in May 2018 after the team was eliminated from the playoffs.
Fisher is Canadian but officially became a United States citizen in 2019. Today, Fisher runs his hunting lifestyle brand Catchin’ Deers, which sells hunting merchandise, while also supporting Underwood’s music career and their family.
How did Carrie Underwood meet her husband?
Underwood and Fisher met during a meet-and-greet at one of her concerts in 2008. Her bassist, Mark Childers, wanted to set her up with the professional athlete, but Underwood was hesitant. “I was like, ‘We’re sticking him in a meet-and-greet because if he’s weird, I don’t want to deal with him,'” she recalled on MTV’s Behind the Music podcast in 2022.
However, when she saw Fisher for the first time, her first impression was, “Hot, hot, hot.” Since they were living in different places at the time — she was in Nashville and he was in Ottawa — they began keeping in touch long distance, then reunited three months later. They had their first kiss on New Year’s Eve 2008.
Fisher proposed on December 20, 2009, and the two wasted no time walking down the aisle. They tied the knot on July 10, 2010, at the Ritz-Carlton resort on Lake Oconee, Georgia.
Do Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have kids?
Underwood and Fisher have two sons. Their first child, Isaiah, was born in February 2015, followed by a second son, Jacob, in January 2019. In between giving birth to her two kids, Underwood had three miscarriages.
