Melissa Fumero Reminisces Over Meeting Husband David Fumero on ‘One Life to Live’
Melissa Fumero played one half of Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s beloved Amy and Jake (Andy Samberg), but she’s experienced her own TV-worthy love story in real life. The Grosse Pointe Garden Society star has been happily married to actor David Fumero for 17 years.
The couple met on the set of One Life to Live, the ABC soap that ran from 1968 to 2012. Melissa played the sassy Adriana Cramer, while David played the handsome Cristian Vega. Fate made sure these two crossed paths on set. Melissa spoke with Swooon about the moment she first met her now-husband all those years ago.
“I remember the first day I met David because everybody at One Life to Live was like, ‘David Fumero is coming back. Did you hear that David Fumero is coming back? David Fumero is going to be here tomorrow.’ Everyone was whispering about it. And I was like, ‘I guess this guy’s a big deal,'” she recalled.
Melissa said people on set talked about how David is “so good looking” and “so hot.” She added, “I do remember I met him in the makeup room. His opening was, ‘I’m Cuban. I heard you’re Cuban.’ And he was like, ‘Do you speak Spanish?'”
The actress laughed as she remembered that she told David that she didn’t speak the language. “Just cut him down right there, which he loves to tell that story,” the actress said. “I was a little bit sassy. But really, what was happening was I was a little nervous around him. So I was just like, ‘Don’t talk to me. You’re very good looking. Go away.'”
Their One Life to Live meet-cute was just the beginning. Melissa and David got engaged in 2006 and married a year later. They have two sons, Enzo and Axel.
In December 2024, Melissa celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary with a sweet post. “I loved you then, and even more so now @davidfumero. Forever,” she wrote on Instagram.
