‘Love Is Blind’s Dave Reveals Why He Asked About Everyone’s Sex Life

Everyone has a lot to say about Love Is Blind’s David Bettenburg. Audiences have been disagreeing with his communication style, jokes, and general treatment of former fiancée Lauren O’Brien.
But now, the 33-year-old is speaking out.
One of his actions that has been continuously debated is his controversial moment in Honduras. Going up to the other couples in the experiment, Dave then asked them whether or not they’d had sex yet. Not everyone liked Dave’s demeanor, but he was quick to plead his case. Opening up to Swooon, Dave revealed, “Everybody was kind of talking about that.”
He continued, “I was just curious … You’re supposed to get to know each other better in person and see if the physical matches the emotional. And I was just flat-out curious how other people were approaching it.”
Dave was adamant that he “never meant that to come across as a negative thing, or necessarily something that would show me as like someone who only cares about sex.” He thought he would come across differently.
The reaction to his Love Is Blind journey has been less favorable than expected.
“It looks a lot different on TV than the way I felt,” he expressed. “I felt I was very genuine, honest, open. I didn’t act differently when the camera was on or off me.” Furthermore, he stated, “I really thought viewers would relate to me more, or be able to relate to me more, and not think that they’re all these perfect human beings out there that are perfect at relationships and everything they do.” His conclusion was, “They only wanted the drama out of my situation.”
Dave admitted, “I haven’t been perfect in the past, and I’m not perfect, and people just kind of didn’t care about those things.”
But, when it comes to the reaction of the fanbase, he doesn’t care too much. With many openly saying that they think Dave went on the hit series for the wrong reason, he had a simple response, “I think people that don’t know me don’t have the right to have an opinion on that.” However, Dave stressed that he “absolutely” came on Love Is Blind for the right reasons.
