Rom-com legends Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan made a surprise appearance to present Best Picture at the 2025 Oscars on March 2. Thirty-six years later, Crystal and Ryan still have the best chemistry.

While presenting the coveted award, Crystal gave a nod to one of the 1989 film’s most romantic lines. Before announcing the winner, Crystal said, “Because when you have the chance to be an Oscar winner for the rest of your life, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

In the epic New Year’s Eve moment when Harry and Sally finally get together in When Harry Met Sally, he tells her this: “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

This marked Ryan’s first Oscars appearance in 27 years. Her ex-husband, Dennis Quaid, was also in attendance to support his film The Substance. He was joined by his wife, Laura Savoie.

Their latest reunion comes on the heels of Ryan and Crystal starring in a Hellmann’s Mayonnaise ad at Katz’s Deli in New York City. The costars recreated the iconic fake orgasm scene at the deli, with Sydney Sweeney delivering the “I’ll have what she’s having line.”

The commercial’s director, Jake Szymanski, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Crystal and Ryan “hadn’t been back inside Katz’s since they shot the scene, and so we got to be there for the moment when they both walked on set.”

He continued, “They also hadn’t seen each other in a couple years. So we got to see them walk back into this place, and the memories flood back, and they start remembering and sharing stories and talking about what it was like to film that day.”
