Long before Alec Baldwin met his now-wife, Hilaria, he was in another high-profile relationship. Baldwin was married to actress Kim Basinger from 1993 to 2002, and they share a daughter, Ireland Baldwin.

More than 20 years after their split and a bitter custody battle, Basinger opened up in a rare interview about her ex-husband.

“Alec and I have a great relationship,” the actress told Variety. “I have great respect for where he is today, and his family. You know, we don’t spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much. But we talk. He’ll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial, and I think loving, relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter, and I don’t wish him anything but everything good.”

The exes met on the set of The Marrying Man in 1990 and also starred in The Getaway in 1994. They separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002. In 2007, Baldwin infamously called his daughter, Ireland, a “rude, thoughtless little pig” in a voicemail message he left in response to an unanswered arranged call. The voicemail was leaked and caused a media firestorm. “It’s a scab that never heals cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way,” he told GMA in 2017.

In her profile, Basinger admitted that Baldwin has “been through a lot lately,” referring to his trial for involuntary manslaughter after the fatal shooting on the set of the film Rust. The case was dismissed in July 2024. “But Hilaria seems to have a great handle on that. So more power to her,” Basinger added.

Baldwin married Hilaria in 2012, and they have since welcomed seven children. The couple is currently starring in their own reality show, The Baldwins, which airs on TLC.
