‘Love Is Blind’: Who Is Lauren’s Ex? Her ‘Friends With Benefits’ Drama Explained
Whoever thought Love Is Blind is just about finding a true soulmate to experience life with… hasn’t been watching the Netflix dating series. Every season, the drama always takes over.
During Season 8, Lauren O’Brien and David Bettenberg’s relationship has taken center stage. The duo hit it off in the pods and got engaged, but their relationship has gone downhill from there.
When discussing Lauren’s romantic past, Dave immediately became displeased. The 33-year-old realized he knew of the person Lauren was hooking up with prior to coming on the show. Although it appears that they are trying to work through it, the couple is on the rocks.

Who is Lauren’s ex on Love Is Blind?
Okay, “ex” is a stretch, according to Lauren. She has continuously stated that he was merely “friends with benefits.” The former teacher opened up to Us Weekly about the situation. “I wouldn’t even consider it a situationship because if it were a situationship, it would be like, ‘Oh, do we wanna be together or not be together?’ And like we weren’t having those conversations.”
He might not have been classified as an “ex” in Lauren’s eyes, but his name has been revealed. His name is Daniel Nides, and he hasn’t been shying away from his part in all of this. The “other guy” surprisingly joked about Love Is Blind.
Sharing a fake Love Is Blind headshot, the gym aficionado used the tagline, “Time to swap leg day for love day.” He captioned the post with a reference to Lauren and David, “You can find me eight floors up in the same “‘frigging’ building.”
Daniel’s Instagram (@gymtanlaw) is currently set to private, but when it was still public, eagle-eyed fans of the series were quick to put it in Reddit threads. Talking to The Tab, he explained that he knew his involvement was going to be brought up, so he tried to combat it with something funny.
“I was just making light of a situation I didn’t have any control over, thought I’d give the people who know me a good laugh,” Daniel said.”Reddit found me out weeks ago, and I just wanted to make sure I controlled my own narrative and make light of it.”
How does Dave know Lauren’s ex?
Dave has not met Lauren’s ex, but he does know people connected to him. His friends and sister have mutual connections with Daniel. In Episode 9, Dave and Lauren have a tense discussion about their future. Lauren is adamant that her “friends with benefits” situation has no impact on whether or not she is ready for marriage.
Dave appears to take more stock in what he’s hearing from his friends and sister than the woman he’s supposedly in love with. One of his friends claimed that he knew “for a fact” Lauren and Daniel were together that weekend before and even “within 48 hours” of her leaving for the experiment. Lauren stresses that this is being blown up into something bigger than it actually is.
Are Lauren and Dave still together?
As of Episode 9, Lauren and Dave are in rocky waters but still remain together. The item is fighting for their relationship, but they’ve been on a downhill trajectory since getting back to Minnesota.
