‘Love Is Blind’: Dave Explains Why His Sister Is So Involved in His Love Life
If you’re still wondering who the star of Love Is Blind Season 8 is, then look no further because it is David (Dave) Bettenburg’s sister.
She has not made an appearance in the series so far, but she has played a major role in Dave’s relationship with fiancée Lauren O’Brien. Dave brought up his older sibling several times in the pods, and he admitted that his sister was nervous he would meet some “reality TV-chasing girl.” Dave spoke with Swooon about why his sister has such a pivotal presence in his love life.
“We’re very close. It’s just me and her,” Dave shared. “Our mom passed away about eight years ago now, and she takes on a lot of those motherly responsibilities and things like that in my life… She just doesn’t want me to make mistakes in life.”
Dave revealed that his sister has been tuning in to the show, and Season 8 so far has been “really hard for her to watch” because she doesn’t like him “being shown as some bad guy or just not treating women well from what the viewers are seeing.”
Since the release of Season 8, viewers have continually noticed how much Dave brings up his sister. The internet’s reaction has been “so wild” for Dave and his sister to experience. “It’s apparently a negative or bad thing to have a good relationship with your sister and want your future spouse to get along with your family,” he admitted. “It’s been very, very confusing.”
He continued, “I was blessed with having such a great family and close friends. Not everybody has that luxury in life. It’s just been interesting to see how people can hold that against you for some reason.”
Dave struggled with his sister’s disappointment over him participating in the experiment. Yet, he never clarified why she had some qualms until now.
He confessed, “Her main concern was never about Love Is Blind or me getting married or finding my person. Her main concern was how people can be portrayed in reality TV.”
