In early February 2025, Foster confirmed that the cast had reunited for the first table read of the season. Meanwhile, Jackie Tohn, who plays Noah’s sister-in-law Esther, revealed to Deadline that filming will begin on March 3.

Nobody Wants This Season 2 plot
With the way things ended in Season 1, there’s plenty of story left to explore for Joanne and Noah. Things nearly fell apart for the couple when Joanne walked away from the relationship because she didn’t want to make Noah choose between her and his faith after he was offered the position of head rabbi. Joanne wasn’t willing to convert to Judaism, so she decided to let Noah pursue his career dream instead of being with her. But Noah didn’t want to give up on their love so fast. The season ended with the two sharing a kiss as her told her, “You’re right. I can’t have both.”
Even before the show got picked up for Season 2, Foster told Swooon that she hopes to pick up right where things left off. “The only thing I really think about is that Season 1 moves really slowly, and I think that’s the really positive thing,” she explained. “I would want to continue that and kind of pick it up around the area where we left off, and keep it kind of moving slow and not jump ahead too fast if we got a Season 2.”
She reiterated this in an interview with Deadline, adding that she hopes to “have as many seasons as possible,” so there’s no plans to “jump ahead” too far in the storyline. “All the big, romantic moments that you want to feel in that first year of a relationship, we want the audience to be able to feel,” she dished. “I know now what hooked people and what sunk in and what stood out, so the goal is to give people that and not make some weird artistic choice and rob them of the joy they want to feel.”
Brody also teased to Tudum what the show can explore in Season 2. “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it?” he pointed out. “What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”
