Soap Star Jason Thompson Reflects on ‘General Hospital’ Supercouple Patrick & Robin
Jason Thompson has been playing Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless since 2016, but General Hospital fans remember when he joined the Port Charles-set soap 20 years ago as Dr. Patrick Drake. The charming doctor had his world rocked when he met Dr. Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough).
His relationship with Robin evolved into GH supercouple status. When asked about his favorite soap supercouple, Thompson immediately thought of Patrick and Robin.
“They were one of my favorite couples ever,” he told Swooon. “Now that I’ve had time to look back on that, I think it was a very special pairing. It was a time in their life, what they went through personally, you know, Kimberly being on the show since she was young, the HIV storylines that we got to play, all that kind of stuff. I thought it was a very special couple.”
Just like any soap couple, Patrick and Robin endured many highs and lows throughout their romance, but their love prevailed. The couple currently lives in Berkeley, California, with their son, Noah. Their daughter, Emma Drake (Braedyn Bruner), recently returned to Port Charles.
Bruner told TV Insider that she prepared for the role of Emma by “going back and watching old episodes and YouTube videos of what I could find of Robin and Patrick and what their relationship was like with Emma and also what Emma’s relationship was like with Anna [Finola Hughes].”
The actor made his final appearance on General Hospital in January 2016 to head over to Genoa City to play Billy. He spoke to Swooon about his character’s burgeoning romance with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). “I think there’s a lot that these characters could do together, however it goes, but I think there’s a lot of passion between the two of them,” he said. “So, I’m personally a big fan of the two of them together.”
Thompson certainly knows a thing or two about great soap couples, so maybe he’s on to something here with Billy and Sally.
