A Deep Dive Into Controversial ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Star Ben Mezzenga

After five years of testing out the theory of whether “love is truly blind,” the franchise has concluded that, yes, sometimes it is.
To make things a little more exciting this installment, Love Is Blind Season 8 began with more individuals than ever before, yet somehow Ben Mezzenga still found a way to stand out. Although becoming the talk of the season isn’t necessarily always the best route to go.
During one particular pods conversation, Ben had some controversial opinions about his feelings toward politics. So, what did Ben say? What does his life look like outside the pods? Scroll down to learn more about the Season 8 star.
Where is Ben from?
Born and raised in Minnesota, Ben still lives in the Midwestern state. His hometown of Shoreview is considered quite small with a population of 26,000 people. Since Shoreview is in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, he was never far removed from a bigger city. He still currently lives in the region.

What does Ben do for a living?
“If you ever need a colonoscopy, I’m your girl,” Taylor Haag said to Ben while introducing her profession, and although the conversation seemed to follow them around with plenty of laughs, Ben’s job isn’t as much of a conversation starter.
He is a developer and currently self-employed. According to his LinkedIn page, he has experience in athletics, real estate development, and technology and real estate sales. While at the University of Minnesota, he majored in Communications and Media Studies.
Did Ben play professional baseball?
No, Ben never played professional baseball, but he was very involved in his college’s team. Part of the Minnesota Golden Gophers baseball team, Ben played in the outfielder position. His younger brother, Ike Mezzenga, also plays the sport. He is currently part of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 28-year-old has remained athletic and has taken up kickball.
What did Ben say about politics?
Ben and Sara Carton talked about many topics in the pods, often bringing up morals, values, and religion. At first, Ben seemed to try to coast by without revealing too many of his opinions. “I think we should talk about some things,” Sara started. “Maybe have an idea about politics.”
With a serious look, Ben nodded, but when Sara explained that she didn’t really take any notice until Donald Trump was in office and the George Floyd uprising happened, her date admitted, “I’m kind of ignorant towards that stuff.”
He continued, “Like, I didn’t vote in the last elections.” Sara didn’t like his confession and replied, “That is so annoying.” Laughing it off, Ben tried to change topics, but Sara, wasn’t having any of that. She clarified that the murder of George Floyd happened in Minneapolis, reaffirming why the tragedy hit home so much. She then asked him about his views on Black Lives Matter.
Once again trying to give a non-answer, Ben said, “I’m not one way or another. I just kind of keep out of it.” This was not the first time the two had spoken about topics surrounding equality. While having a conversation about Christianity, Sara opened up that she strayed away from her childhood beliefs when her older sister, Lisa, came out.
He stated that it took him until college to realize gay people also just want love and now has a more nuanced outlook. “There’s a lot of things that I believe about the Bible, and I believe about the Christian faith, but it’s all hard to obviously know for certain. I believe that there’s the one true God that loves us, and that’s pretty much it,” he said.
Did Ben get engaged?
Yes, he did. Even though Ben and Sara had a couple of rough moments, the two decided that the bond they shared was too electric to give up. The left the pods engaged, but will their relationship survive outside of the pods?
