‘When Calls the Heart’s Kevin McGarry Reflects on Love Story With Kayla Wallace & Talks Honeymoon Plans
There are so many beloved onscreen couples on When Calls the Heart, and the Hallmark Channel series has also sparked a beautiful love story offscreen. Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace, who play Nathan and Fiona, fell in love on set after joining the show in Season 6.
In honor of 14 Days of Swooon and Valentine’s Day, of course, we spoke with McGarry about finding a real-life love in Hope Valley. The actor, who married Wallace in 2024, could have never predicted When Calls the Heart would be the epicenter of love both onscreen and off.
“I owe a lot to When Calls the Heart for not only helping my career and giving me a job and meeting all my friends, but meeting Kayla, meeting my wife, it’s been the most special part of being on that show,” McGarry gushed. When he first met Wallace, he “hoped” sparks would fly between them — and they did! In the words of Lana Del Rey, when you know, you know.
In recent months, Wallace has garnered critical acclaim for her commanding performance in Paramount+’s hit series Landman. She plays tough-as-nails lawyer Rebecca Falcone, and McGarry has been cheering her on every step of the way.
“I knew that she had that side in her. I saw the side she’s doing, but she’s absolutely killing it,” he raved. “She’s fantastic. Everyone on that show is fantastic. I’m very proud of her. She deserves all of this and I’m also enjoying watching Landman, too.”
The couple married in 2024, and McGarry admitted that they’ve been so busy that they haven’t had a proper honeymoon. “We haven’t had a honeymoon yet, so we really have to get on that,” he revealed. “Getting married was a must, and we got that out of the way. And now, we’ll find some time to do a honeymoon. It’ll be fantastic, but we’re very busy.”
In addition to When Calls the Heart, McGarry and Wallace have also starred in two Hallmark movies together, Feeling Butterflies and My Grown-Up Christmas List. Will these two lovebirds share the screen again in a Hallmark movie?
“We love working together. I think it’s just more right now, Kayla’s kind of got her own trajectory, going in a different direction, and I think she wants to focus on that,” McGarry told Swooon. “I’d never say never. But, like I said, she’s a busy lady right now, and she’s got prior commitments.”
