Beverly Ortega was thrilled to get one of the two one-on-one dates during Episode 2 of The Bachelor Season 29. Grant Ellis chose her to go on a trip to Lisa Vanderpump‘s Vanderpump Dogs, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to make it.
With very little explanation, Beverly left the show, prompting Grant to ask three other women to go on the date instead, despite the fact that they already went on a group date earlier in the episode. The lucky ladies were Sarafiena Watkins, Dina Lupancu, and Litia Garr. But what happened to Beverly?
“Today was supposed to be Beverly’s one-on-one with Grant, but yesterday morning she was very sick, and today we found out that she will not be coming back to the house,” Parisa Shifteh explained. Grant added, “Since Beverly had to go home, today has become a mini group date.”
The show did not specify what happened to Beverly that made her need to leave mid-filming, and no update was provided on her condition. However, she appeared on the Tuesday, February 11, episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast to clear things up.

It turns out that Beverly had appendicitis and had to have emergency surgery! Her medical issues began during the group date. While she was back at the mansion, she started getting sick and having severe stomach pains. After about 12 hours, she was sent to the emergency room where she spent three hours getting morphine and an IV. Finally, doctors told her that she had to have the procedure done ASAP.
Although her dad wanted her to fly back to New York first, that wasn’t an option. “I’m like, ‘I can’t. My appendix can explode mid-flight. It’s not safe for me to fly.’ I was really, really sad,” Beverly revealed, adding that it took her about “a month and a half” to recover emotionally.
One of the hardest parts was that she didn’t get to say goodbye to Grant. And even though she wished she could have returned to the show and seen where their connection led, she knew it was best to head back east to recover. “They start flying places [on the show] and it wasn’t safe or smart for me to fly as I was recovering from surgery,” Beverly explained. She also pointed out, “It’s long days, late nights, and I was sad about leaving, but once I got home and everything settled in, I was like, ‘OK, the best decision was for me to come home and recover.'”
The other one-on-one date this week went to Carolina Sofía Quixano. She got emotional as she opened up to Grant about her epilepsy diagnosis, and he assured her that if they built a life together he would always be there to support her. Grant gave Carolina a rose, but previews for the season have shown her seemingly getting involved in some drama.
“I guess I’m crazy and evil!” she said in one preview clip, while seemingly walking away from someone who had confronted her. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out for her as the rest of the season unfolds!
