’9-1-1: Lone Star’ Boss Reveals T.K. & Carlos’ Series Finale Alternate Ending
In a perfect world, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos’ (Rafael L. Silva) story would have continued in a 9-1-1: Lone Star spinoff. The beloved couple got their happy ending, and co-showrunner Rashad Raisani revealed an alternate ending for the Lone Star pair.
The series finale, which aired on February 3, saw T.K. becoming a stay-at-home dad after adopting his half-brother Jonah with Carlos. Raisani explained how the alternate ending would have led to a possible spinoff.
“We also had talked about T.K. and Carlos maybe moving to a new city and starting a new life together somewhere else in Texas to set up a possible spinoff,” Raisani told TV Insider. “Everything else I think was we ended where we wanted to. We just ended two years too soon.”
There is a potential spinoff, but it’s unclear if T.K. or Carlos would return. “I think that it will have a different tone,” the co-showrunner revealed. “It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.”
Raisani also opened about T.K. and Carlos’ adoption storyline and why it was right to end with the couple adopting T.K.’s little brother. He wanted to give Tarlos “joy, unbridled joy, that they have so earned and to see this picture of what their family is going to look like.”
He continued, “Secondly, to me, there is no real meaning in life without some version of sacrifice. And so I felt like to earn this joy, T.K. had to give up something, and he was always willing — he said in Episode 9, if it’s between my little brother and my husband, I have to pick my little brother. We’d already made the promise that T.K. was willing and would have to make some kind of sacrifice to be able to take care of Jonah and to earn that joy, so to speak.”
