‘The Flip Off’ Recap: Christina Haack Reveals Tarek’s Mom Told Her ‘Not to Marry Him’
The competition started to heat up between Christina Haack and ex-husband Tarek El Moussa on Episode 2 of The Flip Off. This week, it was Christina’s turn to choose who would judge the competition, and she picked her mom, Laurie Haack.
However, she also had a surprise in store for Tarek and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa. She secretly asked Tarek’s mom, Dominique El Moussa, to serve as a second judge. To make things fair, the ladies were not told whose home was whose until after they made their decision.
“Do you not think Tarek’s mom will side with him?” Christina’s business partner, Kylie Wing, asked. But Christina was confident that there would be no favoritism. “No, she won’t,” she assured Kyle. “We have a very good relationship. She even told me not to marry him and to marry the dog.”
In a confessional, she further explained, “I have a long history with Tarek’s mom. She’s traveled with me, post-divorce from Tarek, [with] me and the children. We talk on the phone. I definitely feel like I’m her favorite.”
Before splitting in 2016, Tarek and Christina had two children together, and the kids have helped her maintain a close relationship with Dominique. Meanwhile, the exes have gotten to an amicable place in their relationship, and are able to work together professionally, in addition to co-parenting.
Many fans of The Flip Off noticed a bit of a flirtatious energy between Christina and Tarek during the show’s premiere, and their banter continued in week two. “You are so controlling,” Christina told her ex, which she knew would press his buttons.
“Christina’s using the word controlling just to get under my skin because she knows I don’t like the word,” he explained. “If I was controlling, why is it that every time in the past [when] Christina and I would work together and we’d have a dispute over something, it’d always go her way? Controlling? Don’t think so. But either way, she’s never gonna beat me.”
After Tarek and Heather were declared the winners for their kitchen remodeling last week, they earned another victory for their primary bedroom and master bathroom in Episode 2. That means Christina will have to contribute another $2,000 towards their next design. However, the final decision will come down to which team has a better return on investment (ROI) for their finished property.
