Jerry Douglas’ Widow Kym Douglas Announces Engagement: ‘Love & Joy Can Bloom Again’

Kym and Jerry Douglas were one of the soap world’s most romantic off-screen couples. The two were married for 36 years before Jerry’s death after brief illness on November 11, 2021. He was 88 years old.
Kym and Jerry, who played John Abbott on The Young and the Restless, met while they were both working on a Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in 1983. They were married on April 6, 1985. The couple had one child together, a son named Hunter.
Now, Kym is sharing some romantic news that sends the reminder that love can be found at any age! She and boyfriend Tim Robertson are planning their future together and plan to marry soon.
“I’m hesitant to share what’s happening in my life the last few months because of the tragedies and hardships caused by the devastating LA fires,” Kym began her Instagram. “In the wake of such sorrow, I’ve come to understand that God, through our trials and grief, WILL restore and renew.”

She continued, “So perhaps this is the perfect time for a story about finding Love After Loss and never losing hope. After experiencing the profound loss of our beloved spouses, Tim and I never expected our paths to cross, mutual friends introduced us and God had a beautiful plan. We found healing, joy, and love in each other. Tim said it best: ‘God’s grace never ceases to amaze me.’ Tim and I are engaged and will marry next month. I share this with the hope that you remember, even in life’s most difficult seasons, love & joy can bloom again and that it’s never too late.”
In addition to playing John Abbott on Y&R, Jerry appeared in numerous TV shows including The Incredible Hulk, Cold Case, Police Woman, and The Bionic Woman. On the big screen, he was in Mommie Dearest and JFK.
Kym’s pals from Y&R weighed in with supportive comments on her post. “Watching your love story has been one of my greatest joys,” shared Tracey Bregman (Lauren). “I’m so happy for you both! Tim, welcome to the family.”
Kate Linder (Esther), Jerry’s longtime costar, added, “So happy for you! Congratulations!” Lauralee Bell, who plays Christine on Y&R, and was John Abbott’s stepdaughter for a brief period, wrote, “I’m so happy for you!” Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) shared, “I’m so happy for you Kym.”
Kym also played a role on Y&R. In 2021, she did a one-day appearance as Zelda Winston, Traci Abbott’s (Beth Maitland) book agent.
