Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple have hit a bit of a snag in their hunt for an apartment in New York City. After two months of searching, the couple still has not found a place together.

Although the Golden Bachelorette stars recently took another trip to the Big Apple, they have yet to sign a lease, and they explained why while appearing on the Thursday, January 30, episode of the Dear Shandy podcast.

“There aren’t any [apartments] to look at,” Vassos said. Chapple clarified that they’re specifically looking in the SoHo area of New York City, which has limited the search. “There’s not a ton to look at,” Vassos continued. “[The realtor] sent one today that was in the West Village, but it didn’t have air conditioning, so we’re like, ‘We’re out.'”

Chapple explained that the pair’s plan for the first year is to rent a place while they get comfortable in the big city. “We want to make sure that we’re in the right area,” he revealed. “Renting is challenging in the city, but it is what it is.”

Vassos added, “We’re trying. If I look at SoHo right now, there might be four places at the most, and probably one that fits our criteria with the number of bedrooms and what we’re looking for.” Chapple then jumped in to joke, “What she’s looking for is a 1,500-square-foot closet!”

After confirming their engagement during The Golden Bachelorette finale in November 2024, Chapple and Vassos revealed their plans to find a place together in NYC. While they’ve clarified that they’re not “moving in” together, they described the future shared space as somewhere they can use to “get away” with each other. Neither reality star plans to make a permanent move, though, and they’ll continue with their long-distance relationship (he’s from Kansas and she lives in Maryland).

Of course, seeing the real estate that NYC has to offer has come as a bit of a culture shock to Chapple. “I’m from the Midwest,” he pointed out. “For the prices here, equivalent rent, I could have a 10-12,000-square-foot-home. With pools and a country club and gated entrance.”

Luckily, there’s no rush or deadline for the lovebirds, and they can take their time with the apartment hunt.
