Richard Gere is married and thriving. The Pretty Woman actor is opening up about his personal life in a rare interview.

Gere first met Alejandra Silva in Italy on the Amalfi Coast in 2014 shortly after his 2013 divorce from his ex-wife, Carey Lowell, with whom he shares a son, Homer James. Four years later, Gere and Silva married, aligned in their interest and goals. In an interview with Elle EspañaSilva likened their connection to that of “soul mates.”

The actor gushed about his own happiness in relation to his wife. Silva, who is from Spain, is happy to have returned home, and Gere couldn’t be more content for his entire family. The couple moved to Spain with their children Alexander, James, and Albert.

“The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever,” Gere said in the interview. “If she is happy, I am happy.”

Silva continued, “We have the same values, we see the world in the same way and from the first moment we felt like we have known each other for a long time. And this only happens once, if it happens at all … We were united by the karma of our past lives.” Gere praised his wife’s “open-mindedness and her genuine sense of gratitude.”

Gere first shared his plans to move to Europe with his family in an interview in 2024 with Vanity Fair Spain. The actor said the move was to allow his wife to be closer to her relatives.

“For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture,” he said of Silva. “She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers.”

Just before their move, the actor also appeared on TODAY in November 2024, further detailing the big life decision. “My wife is Spanish, and we’re going there for her family, her friends, her culture. The kids are bilingual, so it’s really going to be great for them,” he said.

The Agency actor and Silva also share an interest in the environmental conversation, having collaborated on the Sierra a Mar project in Mexico, specializing in natural resource protection and management.
