‘ACOTAR’s Future: Everything We Know About a Seventh Book & Beyond
The ACOTAR drought is real. It’s been almost four years since A Court of Silver Flames was released, and we are itching for any news about the next book. Sarah J. Maas, give us something soon! While we know the sixth book is definitely happening, what does the future of the ACOTAR universe look like after that?
Since we’re inquiring minds over here at Swooon, we decided to do a little digging about a potential seventh book in the series and the future of the beloved romantasy series as a whole. Scroll down for the latest updates.
Will there be a seventh book in the ACOTAR series?
While Bloomsbury hasn’t confirmed a seventh ACOTAR book, Maas has alluded to more ACOTAR novels after the sixth book is released. While talking about the sixth book to TODAY, the author said that the “next book” after that “in that series, I have the ideas and general, vague thoughts. But the nitty-gritty of writing and the emotional journeys with the characters — I usually love to go on those journeys with them.”
When will the sixth ACOTAR book be released?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date for the sixth ACOTAR novel. The last book in the series was released in 2021. The four books in the series — A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and A Court of Frost and Starlight — were released in consecutive years starting in 2015.
There was a three-year break between A Court of Frost and Starlight and A Court of Silver Flames. The wait between the fifth and the sixth book is already at four years. It’s looking more like the sixth book won’t be released until 2026.

“No surprise, it’s going to be a long book,” Maas told Spotify. “It’s too early for me to tell you who it will be about, and what’s going to happen, but I hope to have more details for you soon.”
The first three books (as well as the novella) are told from the perspective of Feyre Archeron, and the fifth book was focused on Feyre’s older sister, Nesta, and told through Nesta and Cassian’s POVs. Many fans believe that the sixth book will focus on the third Archeron sister, Elain, as well as Azriel.
How many ACOTAR books will there be in total?
That remains unclear. In March 2023, it was announced that Maas signed a new four-book deal with Bloomsbury Publishing. This deal didn’t include her latest novel, House of Flame and Shadow from the Crescent City series, which was released in 2024.
We know two books in the four-book deal is the sixth ACOTAR book and the fourth Crescent City book. Maas hinted that another book she’ll be writing will be a new story not set in the worlds of ACOTAR or Crescent City.
“There’s one book that I’m going to be writing after this next ACOTAR book that I’m very excited about. I’m not going to say what world it’s in. I’m not going to say anything,” she told TODAY. “But it’s a story that’s been brewing in the back of my mind for a long time. … I think it’s going to be a very emotional book for me to write just in terms of the world I’ll be writing and the characters that might pop up.”
The New York Times bestselling author has also teased that she might continue connecting the worlds of her three series — ACOTAR, Throne of Glass, and Crescent City. “The gates between worlds could open again, possibly to other places,” she told TODAY. “I’m not committing to anything. But I love the idea of being able to play in all three worlds.”
