‘All My Children’ Icon Susan Lucci Reveals Erica Kane’s Favorite Husband
All My Children just wouldn’t have been the same without Susan Lucci! The soaps legend opened up about her 40-year run on the ABC daytime series during Susan Lucci in Conversation with Andy Cohen: All My Children at 55, part of 92NY Recanati-Kaplan Talks, on January 14.
Obviously, discussion of Lucci’s onscreen love life (and Erica’s 10 husbands) came up during the program. Moderator Andy Cohen asked Lucci about Erica’s favorite husband — and Lucci answered!
“Jack Montgomery was the one who wouldn’t leave and couldn’t get out of her life, and she couldn’t walk away too much,” Lucci said. “Although in the end she was in the crosshairs of that rifle going after Jack because she had left him again… I guess, Jack.”

Jack (Walt Willey) and Erica were one of All My Children’s most beloved supercouples. Willey joined the soap in 1987.
Erica’s fate (and mostly everyone else’s) was left up in the air when the show ended on ABC in 2011. A gunshot rang out in the final moments of the show’s original run, leaving fans wondering who was on the receiving end. When Prospect Park revived the show for a few months in 2013, fans learned that JR shot and killed Marissa.
Writer Lorraine Broderick opened up about how the show was supposed to have a different ending that the shocking cliffhanger.
“We had an entirely different happy ending of All My Children, the final script that we all worked so hard on,” Broderick revealed during the discussion. “And then they decided to pick up on this short term internet thing that happened and we had to go back in and change everything so that everything was a cliffhanger so that they would have something.”
