Exclusive Interview
‘XO, Kitty’ Star Anna Cathcart Gushes Over Reuniting With Noah Centineo in Season 2 (VIDEO)
School is back in session, and the KISS students are gearing up for another love-filled, breakup-filled school year with some new faces, some old faces, and some familiar ones as well. A recent trailer released by Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff revealed that the original franchise’s love interest, Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo, is passing through Seoul in Season 2.
In an interview with Swooon, Anna Cathcart, who also played the younger sister of Lana Condor‘s Lara Jean in the Netflix rom-com trilogy, couldn’t contain her excitement on the topic of their reunion.
“I was truly so, so excited when I found out that Noah was coming,” said Cathcart. “I texted him very, very excited being like, ‘I can’t believe this is actually happening.'”
Taking place and filmed in Seoul, Korea, XO, Kitty follows Kitty and her friends as they navigate their love lives and friendships at the same international school Kitty’s mother attended. Adapted from author Jenny Han‘s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, an overlap or reference to the prior series in XO, Kitty felt ripe for opportunity. And who better to answer that call than Centineo?
“He was in Seoul when we were shooting, and it was so, so special to be back in a space where not only did I get to see Noah again and hang out with him, but get to be Kitty and Peter and have that dynamic re-established and re-sparked, I think it is so special,” said Cathcart.
In their previous works together, Cathcart and Centineo played with the unserious and even mildly competitive dynamics at times of one, a boyfriend having to win over the little sister of his girlfriend, and two, the little sister of said girlfriend just getting to have fun with it.
“They know each other so well in such a specific way, and I love being able to come back to this world and get to re-explore that,” the actress explained. “Like their really specific older brother protective relationship.”
The last film the two actors appeared in together was the third and final act of the film trilogy surrounding the relationship between Kitty’s older sister Lara Jean and Peter, marking approximately four years since fans have seen the two share a screen. As Cathcart leads a second season of the YA rom-com as the only original cast member from the trilogy, the presence of a familiar face on set went a long way for the actress.
“Just to have his support as well and his encouragement from him about this show and about where I’m at in my career,” said Cathcart. “I’m truly so, so grateful for him.”
Season 2 of XO, Kitty also features Choi Min-Yeoung, Anthony Keyvan, San Heon Lee, Peter Thurnwald, Regan Aliyah, and Gia Kim.
