‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 12 Premiere: Is Rosemary & Lee’s Relationship in Trouble?
[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for the When Calls the Heart Season 12 premiere “The Mountie Way.”]
The When Calls the Heart Season 12 premiere set in motion several storylines that will continue to play out in future episodes, and we’re worried about Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) and Lee (Kavan Smith).
Lucas (Chris McNally) needs the help of the mayor of Hope Valley to kickstart the national park and that means going to Capital City. Rosemary puts her foot down and says it’s “completely unreasonable” for Lucas to expect Lee to be away from her and Goldie.
Lee explains to Lucas and Henry (Martin Cummins) that he doesn’t want to be away from his family, even if he is the mayor. “You can’t expect us to sacrifice our family life just to revitalize your political fortunes,” Rosemary pointedly tells Lucas.
Rosemary relents a bit when Lee reveals that the plan is to name the national park Marigold Coulter National Park after their daughter. At the end of the episode, Lee heads off to Capital City with Lucas and promises he’ll be home on Friday. Even though he’s needed at a dinner party over the weekend, Lee isn’t going. Rosemary gets to decide what events in Capital City he can go to.
Lucas stresses that as soon as everything regarding the national park gets into motion, Lee can be home for good. Lee promises Rosemary that he’ll call every day. On the train to Capital City, Lucas tells Lee that they’re “equal partners” with this national park.
But will this national park situation be so easy for Lee to step away from? Balancing work and his family isn’t an easy task, especially when they’re in two different places. Could Lee being stretched thin between Capital City and Hope Valley cause problems for his relationship with Rosemary?
Nothing is going to break these two up, but it’s been a while since they’ve faced a real relationship challenge. The world of politics is messy, and Lee could easily miss a train every now and then as the national park planning gets underway. Whatever happens, Rosemary and Lee will face it head-on.
