Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Why She’s Single: ‘I Like a Hit and Run’

Whoopi Goldberg is happy to be alone and does not want to live with another man anytime soon. The vocal Oscar-winning actor has been married three times before, but she now prefers a different kind of relationship
During the December 10 episode of The View, Goldberg opened up about her approach to modern love and explained why she’s not in a serious relationship at the moment. “I like a hit and run,” she said.
While talking to her other co-hosts, Goldberg added, “Perhaps it’s not that romance is dead, perhaps you are looking for things that are not in your lane.” This prompted a deeper conversation about the state of dating in the current age.
Joy Behar was quick to bring up the viral TikTok sound, “I’m looking for a man in finance, trust fund, 6’5″, blue eyes,” while Sunny Hostin discussed certain statistics that shocked her. Quoting the Pew Research Center that reported “61% of men are still actively looking for their partner,” while “38% of single women are like, ‘I’m good, I’m good by myself.'”
The 69-year-old Sister Act star agreed with the latter part of the research. “I like a hit and run because I am not interested in a committed relationship,” she said.
Goldberg reflected that her feelings didn’t necessarily have to do with her experiences with marriage. She stated that her life as a married woman was “very good to me.” Yet, it still wasn’t exactly what she wanted. Her longest marriage was for six years with first husband Alvin Martin, who is also the father of her only child.
Single by choice, Goldberg had some advice for people looking for a partner, “Forget how much money you’re making. We’re here at the bar. Let’s eat some chips. Let’s eat one of these nasty potatoes and see what’s on.”
Behar seconded this as she emphasized that certain criteria isn’t that important. “Just find somebody who’s good and easy to be with,” she said. Behar also noted that she doesn’t think a financial barrier should exist as she used the example of her current husband and her ex, who were both teachers.
