Book To Screen
‘Verity’ Wraps Filming & More Updates About Colleen Hoover’s New Book Adaptation

The Colleen Hoover Cinematic Universe is just getting bigger. It Ends with Us became one of the biggest hits of summer 2024, and now another one of Colleen Hoover‘s bestsellers is headed to the big screen. Her widely popular 2018 romantic thriller Verity is one step closer to theaters.
From what we know about the release date to casting details, here’s the latest about the next Hoover hit to get the adaptation treatment.
When is Verity coming out?
Verity will be released on May 15, 2026. Like It Ends with Us, Verity will be released in theaters. It’s unclear when the movie will hit a streaming service.
Who has been cast in the Verity movie?
There had been plenty of fancasting for Verity, and now we know who will play the titular role. Anne Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a famous author who is left incapacitated after a car accident. She also produces the film.
Hathaway announced on April 7 that filming had wrapped on Verity. She posted an Instagram video of her flipping through the book with the caption, “So Be It… that’s a wrap on the #VerityMovie production! See you in theaters May 15, 2026.”

The other major roles in Verity are Jeremy Crawford, Verity’s husband, and Lowen Ashleigh, the woman Jeremy hires to finish Verity’s novels. Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy, while Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen. Hartnett and Hathaway were spotted filming the movie in Queens, New York, in February 2025.
Prior to the cast reveal, fans threw out names like Theo James and Chris Evans for Jeremy. As for Lowen, fans were chattering about Victoria Pedretti and Lucy Hale for the role of Lowen.
Michael Showalter, who directed The Idea of You, which starred Hathaway, is directing and producing Verity for Amazon MGM.
What is Verity about?
Without veering too much into spoiler territory, Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh as she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, the husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, hires Lowen to complete the remaining books in his wife’s bestselling series. Verity has been left incapacitated after an accident.
When Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, she discovers an unfinished autobiography written by Verity. As she reads the manuscript, Lowen learns shocking details about Verity and Jeremy. Things get even more complicated as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy deepen, and she begins to wonder if she should let him read his wife’s words.
Are there other Colleen Hoover adaptations in the works?
After the massive success of It Ends with Us, which earned over $340 million at the box office, Hollywood is turning to Hoover’s trove of books for movie inspiration. Reminders of Him will hit theaters in 2026. Regretting You, starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco, is set to start filming in early 2025.
Swooon spoke with author Anna Todd, who is producing Regretting You, about how she pushed for Franco to be cast in the romantic leading man role. “I was wondering how people are going to take it online because he’s not who you would first expect. But once you think about it and see him and think about him being a teacher in a classroom, I knew he was perfect for it,” she said.
Reminders of Him is also set for the big screen. Maika Monroe will star in the film.
