‘Golden Bachelorette’ Winner Chock Chapple Finally Reveals the Story Behind His Unique Name
Chock Chapple won over Joan Vassos‘ heart in the first season of The Golden Bachelorette, and fans of the show are thrilled that the insurance executive is still as much in love with the lead as he appeared on the show. Yet, the chock-o-noodle connoisseur still had one major secret to reveal.
Where does his unique name come from?
Finally, our question was answered on The Betchlor podcast. Host Jared Freid got straight to the point when he asked, “What is Chock? What is that name?” He turned to Joan with his next question, “How many Chocks do you know?” Joan replied, “Zero. Not one.”
Not afraid to give the simple explanation away, Chock admitted, “I don’t have this great story.” Chock then headed into a tale from his childhood and stated, “My legal name is Charles, but I have always gone by Chock.” He said, “My mother told me, ‘Usually the nickname for Charles is Chuck.’ Then she goes, ‘I didn’t like Chuck,’ and a couple of her girlfriends were just sitting around and somebody came up with Chock.”
Although he did mention that his unusual nickname wasn’t thrust upon him right at birth. “Since I’ve been two years old, I’ve always been Chock,” he added.
Always having gone by the unique name Chock, there was no doubt in his mind that he would also use that moniker during his time on The Golden Bachelorette. “Chock has always been my name,” he noted.
Odd name aside, none of that mattered to Joan, who recently admitted to Swooon that she knew pretty early on in the experience that Chock was the one. “We had a connection immediately. The minute we were together, we started talking. And it never stopped, to the point where we hardly realized we were in Disneyland, which is hard to do because it’s such an epic place, but we were just all about getting to know each other, and the flow was so easy. It was probably one of the easiest dates I’ve ever been on,” Joan gushed.
