‘Cobra Kai’ Bosses Take Us Behind That Steamy Sensei Hook-up

There’ve been a lot of romantic connections to come and go throughout all six seasons of Cobra Kai, but the second part of Season 6 might just have the most jaw-dropping yet.

In Episode 6, “Snakes on a Plane,” Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) approves a night out for the teens in Miyagi-Do, and some key members of Cobra Kai come with, much to Kim Da-Eun’s (Alicia Hannah-Kim) chagrin.

The rival senseis end up engaging in a wild goose chase throughout downtown Barcelona to keep their teens out of trouble (and potential alleyway brawls), and when they show up just minutes too late to the location the kids were just at, they engage in a bit of a fight… until that fury turns into fascination, and the two start making out.

So what went into making these rival senseis engaging in such unexpected passion?

Cobra Kai co-creator Josh Heald told Swooon, “There’s such a spiciness to each of them independently. With Kim, everything she says has a bite to it and an aggressiveness, and Chozen also. He’s a guy who goes out to a nightclub with a pair of sais in his jacket. These two are comfortable living on the edge of violence.”

“We loved just pushing them right over that edge into this steamy torrid affair,” Heald continued. “And that line is so thin. Are these two going to fight each other to the death or are they going to have one hot night of passion? That was just something that we couldn’t get enough of imagining in the writer’s room.”

For the creatives, seeing the animosity of the evening end in a beachfront hook-up was a true treat: “The kids are having this one night out on the town, and you’re building the tension of what’s going to happen, and you’re pretty sure there’s gonna end up being a brawl on the streets of Barcelona,” Heald remembered. “Bringing it to that boil and having it culminate with these two giving into that unexpected temptation was just a really, really fun idea that we’re happy we went with because it just popped on screen, and those two had such great chemistry.”
