Supercouple Sessions

Inside Ridge & Brooke’s Epic ‘B&B’ Romance With Thorsten Kaye & Katherine Kelly Lang (VIDEO)

It was love at first sight on The Bold and the Beautiful in 1987 when Brooke Logan locked eyes with wealthy playboy Ridge Forrester at a party. It didn’t matter that he was engaged to sweet Caroline Spencer — Ridge and Brooke became the show’s destiny duo. “We’ve been soulmates ever since we met,” says Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) of the “Bridge” dynamic. “Brooke’s been in love with Ridge forever. In her mind, that’s always going to be the love of her life.”

Lang has played the role since the first episode on March 23, 1987, and appreciates that the couple has remained a throughline of the show for the past 37 years. “I think because it started from the beginning, and it was such a dynamic relationship and very intense feelings for the characters as well as for the viewers, and they just took to it,” Lang reflects. “There was a lot of chemistry there; it was the young love, and it was the opposites attract — I was kind of the girl from the other side of the tracks, and he was the rich, Bel Air millionaire/billionaire living in Beverly Hills and in fashion.”

Thorsten Kaye replaced original cast member Ronn Moss as Ridge in December 2013. The actor and Lang vividly recall their initial meeting. “The first time I met you was on set, and the first thing we did was make out,” reports Kaye. “He was very handsome,” Lang notes. “Why is that past tense?” muses the actor before adding, “The years have not been kind. I’m aware.”

Their characters are currently bickering over their respective daughters, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Hope (Annika Noelle), and his ex, Taylor (Rebecca Budig), is circling around, but Kaye feels they’ll weather the storm. “I think these are two grown-up people that have been through a lot,” he observes. “I think they are better when they’re together.”

In this installment of Supercouples Sessions, the costars reveal where they’d like the next “Bridge” wedding — #12! — to take place, discuss why the Brooke and Bill pillows a fan gifted Lang are a source of discord, how Kaye gets “scary” in scenes, why Lang doesn’t want to see “soulmate” in the script again, and so much more. Plus, Kaye makes an adorable shoutout to wife Susan Haskell (ex-Marty, One Life to Live).
