‘My Life With the Walter Boys’: Ashby Gentry Weighs In on Love Triangle Debate & Talks Season 2
Like many teen-centric shows before, My Life With the Walter Boys utilizes the power of a love triangle. After the first season of the Netflix series, fans have chosen their sides. Is Alex (Asbhy Gentry) or Cole (Noah LaLonde) better for Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez)?
After the death of her family, Jackie is sent to Colorado to live with her late mom’s best friend. There, she is thrust into a wild yet rustic life that is a far cry from her upbringing in New York. While getting the hang of the place, she starts crushing on two boys, Alex (Asbhy Gentry) and Cole, who also happen to be brothers.
When asked who he thinks Jackie belongs with, Gentry (in partnership with Invisalign) told Swooon, “I think Jackie belongs with both of them and neither of them throughout her journey in Colorado.” He then referenced the Austrian poet Rilke in that “true lovers are the guardians of each other’s solitude in so far as they help each other be themselves.”
However, in the show, the brothers have a slightly less nuanced opinion. Battling it out over Jackie’s love, she tries not to get in between them. The Princeton hopeful slowly stumbles into a relationship with Alex and gets Cole off her mind. Okay, actually, no, she does not. She just thinks she can suppress her feelings for Cole.
But that’s not what happens. They share a passionate kiss in the barn when Alex is sleeping off his drunken state at their older brother Will’s (Johnny Link) wedding.
Unlike the novel it’s based on, Alex and Jackie are still together at the end of My Life With The Walter Boys Season 1. She doesn’t give him any clarity before leaving for New York for the summer. Gentry teased a more “intense” second season.
Fans are questioning what the dynamic between Jackie and the brothers will be like moving forward in Season 2. They’ve also been debating how Cole and Alex will interact. Will they act like nothing is wrong, or will this love triangle cause a bunch of problems for their big family?
“The only way out is through,” Gentry explained. “I do think that they will come out of it, out of this sort of feud that they found themselves in.” He alluded that not all moments between them will showcase a fraught bond. “There are some moments where they’re brothers, and it’s kind of funny,” he teased, though he also hinted at more serious scenes. “There are some moments where they’re rivals,” he added.
The actor highlighted to Swooon that rebuilding their brotherly friendship will be more complicated than before. “There are some moments where they’re sympathetic towards one another, which is great because that’s something I really wanted to explore more of after Season 1. How are these two related, not only through Jackie but also outside of her as well, and you do witness a little bit of that,” he said.
Yet the main focus will still be on Alex and Cole’s budding love stories with Jackie. So, who do you hope Jackie explores her connection with the most? Let us know in the comments below.
