Hallmark is getting meta with their Countdown to Christmas movies. In the opening moments of The Christmas Charade, you’re watching an entirely different movie with Hallmark stars Kristin Booth and Jefferson Brown. In a movie within a movie move, it turns out Whitney (Rachel Skarsten) is watching this caper from her couch. Skarsten spoke to Swooon about this fun double cameo moment.

“I didn’t know that Kristin Booth was going to be in it until I think I started filming it,” she said. “The funny thing is that whole cameo, Jefferson Brown is the other half of that cameo. Jefferson and I did Christmas Island a year before. I felt like not only was it so cool that I’d never met her and that she was in it, but that Jefferson was the other part of it. It was super trippy to be on set. They filmed it the second last day of shooting, but then to see Jefferson sitting there I was like, I feel like we’re back on Christmas Island.”

Booth and Brown are beloved members of the Hallmark family. Booth is best known for playing Shane McInerney in the Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies for Hallmark Mystery. Brown starred in Christmas Island with Skarsten and currently plays Colton Landry in the hit Hallmark series The Way Home.

In The Christmas Charade, Whitney is looking for some excitement in her life after always playing it safe, and she certainly finds that with FBI agent Josh (Corey Sevier). After a blind date mix-up, Whitney gets caught up in an undercover assignment with Josh.

Skarsten told Swooon that Whitney’s first impression of Josh is that she’s a “bit fascinated by him because he’s had this kind of unconventional, almost lonely life. There’s something that draws her to that, and she wants to uncover more of that and who he really is behind everything. I think there is a little bit of a thrill with it because she’s always played it safe. So now someone is introducing her to the fast life. I think she’s intrigued and feels safe with him, too.
