‘The Chicken Sisters’: Lea Thompson on Nancy’s Romantic Future, Reaction to Amanda and Sergio Drama

Nancy Hillier (Lea Thompson) is ready for a new chapter. In Episode 6 of The Chicken Sisters, Nancy made a surprising move by taking off her wedding ring. Nancy was married to Frank Sr. until his death. Now that he’s gone, could she find love again?

“I think Nancy decides that her husband wasn’t the man she thought he was. And also, it’s time to move on. He’s passed away, and it’s time for her to be a vibrant single woman,” Thompson told Swooon. When asked about opening up her heart again, Thompson simply said, “Maybe.”

She continued, “I think grief is interesting. Everybody experiences it in different ways, and I think Nancy’s old fashioned and thought when she got married it would be forever. But when her husband passes away, she doesn’t think of herself as moving on. But during the course of this first season, she realizes it’s time to move on.”

The Back to the Future alum noted that it’s been “interesting” to watch Nancy’s growth as a woman. “She was so used to not thinking about herself, which I think is typical for a lot of women, and she finally reaches the point where she realizes, this is her one and only life that she has to take care of. She has to be #1 in her own life.”

But Nancy has her hands full with the Frannie’s vs. Mimi’s culinary war and the romantic drama going on with Frank Jr. (James Kot), Amanda (Schuyler Fisk), and Sergio (Ektor Rivera). Amanda and Frank Jr.’s relationship has hit a low point, mostly due to Frank Jr. not stepping up (and overall laziness), and Amanda’s found solace in the very handsome Sergio. They’ve even KISSED!

Thompson admitted that Nancy would be “devastated” if Amanda and Frank Jr. eventually split up. “Nancy loves Amanda as much as she loves her son. She never wants to lose her,” she said.
