Will Lucas Find a New Love on ‘When Calls the Heart’? Chris McNally Teases Season 12
Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan (Kevin McGarry) got their happy ending on When Calls the Heart, but what about Lucas (Chris McNally)? He deserves a great love, too!
The When Calls the Heart cast is currently filming Season 12, and we spoke to McNally about the highly-anticipated upcoming season. Could a new romance be on the horizon for Mr. Bouchard?
“Well, there is one of the new characters that’s coming to town who represents a fairly strong opposition to Lucas, and I think within that is a spark of chemistry, and we will see where that goes,” McNally told Swooon. “I’m not sure yet, but I also don’t want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be excited to meet this new individual and get to know them and follow that journey.”
The actor teased “fun new characters” will be joining the crew in Hope Valley. He was tight-lipped to avoid spoiling anything, but McNally did say the show will “explore some some areas that we haven’t had a chance to before in terms of these new characters but expanding on maybe some of the younger characters in Hope Valley that are now coming into adulthood. It presents an opportunity to kind of dive into that and unpack that a little bit.”
At the end of Season 11, Elizabeth and Nathan finally confessed their feelings for each other after a long slow burn. Before Elizabeth and Nathan, Elizabeth was engaged to Lucas. It didn’t work out between them, but McNally stressed that Lucas will always have love for Elizabeth.
“I think that Lucas has always maintained that Elizabeth’s happiness is paramount to him, so seeing her happy with Nathan, that gives him some solace,” the Holiday Crashers star said. “He’s happy for her, but it obviously still stings. But I don’t think in Lucas’ mind there’s any changing this course. It’s sort of the path has been set. He is coming to terms with it, and he’s at peace with it. Does he wish that it was a different path? Yes, but at the end of the day, he really cares for Elizabeth and wants her to be happy.”
