Oh, babies! Camilla Luddington and Chris Carmack got a double shock at the end of the October 17 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. As Link and Jo caught a glimpse of their baby during their first ultrasound, they noticed two babies. Yes, Grey’s Anatomy is headed into uncharted territory with the arrival of the first set of twins among the Grey Sloan docs. Luddington and Carmack spoke with Swooon about their reaction to JoLink’s twin baby news.

“I had talked to our showrunner in the summer because we’re close, and so I was texting her, and she was talking about the baby,” Luddington shared. “I’m like, ‘Just tell me, are we having this baby?’ Because it was left in the finale where potentially they make another choice, and that’s up to them. That’s totally fine. She was like, ‘Yes,’ and then I got to thinking, ‘Oh, Grey’s baby. What’s going to happen? What disaster is going to happen?’ I remember asking, ‘Wait, is it one?’ And I remember her saying, ‘Twins has been pitched, but I don’t know.’ And so I was like, ‘Okay.’ And then I kind of forgot about it, and when we got it, I was like, ‘Oh, damn.’ Honestly, I was just happy that so far, it’s healthy twin babies.”

The episode ended before we really got the chance to see Jo and Link fully process the news. “It’s funny. Our offscreen talks about the material are very much how like our onscreen characters would be. I’m like, ‘Camilla, you know, it’s okay. They’re healthy,'” Carmack noted.

Luddington added, “We’re gonna be filming with so many children. It’s crazy. It sends them. I mean, listen, that kind of news takes time to process. I think in that time, in true Grey’s fashion, it kind of sends things into a bit of a tailspin.”

TV timelines can vary, so could we see Jo and Link’s twin babies arrive before the end of Season 21? “I selfishly hope that I don’t have to wear a massive twin baby bump for three seasons, but our timelines on Grey’s Anatomy, you kind of never know,” Luddington told Swooon. “Sometimes, you’ll get an episode, and we time-jumped six months. That’s a question or an answer that I think we’ll all discover together.”

Jo and Link already have Luna and Scout at home, so going from two kids to four is going to be quite the adjustment. Could JoLink fans get twins and a wedding this season? “I don’t know. I mean, I want to say Link’s got a ring hidden in a drawer somewhere just waiting to use it,” Carmack said before saying to Luddington, “I could see you turning me down because I tried to recycle a ring [from when he proposed to Amelia].”

Luddington said she has “yet to see the script where Link proposes,” but she has hope for a JoLink wedding. “I definitely think that Link should propose,” she said.
