Chock Chapple knows how to make a lasting impression. Bringing the Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos his signature chock-o-noodle soup, he charmed not just her but also everyone watching at home.

The 61-year-old is already a winner in our book, and Joan and Chock’s connection seems like it could lead to something long-lasting. The reserved gentleman is not just handsome but also genuinely nice. Eagerly jumping into every experience The Golden Bachelorette has requested, we’re falling in love with Chock as the weeks go by.

Butting heads every so often with the other contestants about his “possessive nature,” it’s abundantly obvious that he’s all in when it comes to Joan. Asking her which side of the bed she’d like to sleep on during the group bowling date might not have been the best time, but he could potentially have figured it out by now. Many have called Chock a frontrunner from the very beginning. Now, with just one other man, Guy Gansert, left standing, the early season prophecies could actually be true.

So, who is the man who has made Joan feel “safe,” a trait previously only reserved for her late husband, John? Scroll down below to learn more about the one and only Chock.

Why did Chock leave?

At the beginning of the series, Chock revealed that his mom had Stage 4 cancer. Sadly, she died during his time on the spinoff series. He had called his mom his “hero.” Right after his Chippendales-like performance for Stand Up Against Cancer, Chock was visibly upset as he revealed the news about his mother.

Being consoled by the other suitors, Chock went to Joan to explain his reason for departing. Joan proved to be a shoulder for Chock to cry on, and it seemed that she made him feel slightly better. Sad that her frontrunner was leaving the show, she mentioned that their relationship would always be a question in her mind now.

Thankfully, Chock returned to The Golden Bachelorette in that same episode to continue his relationship with Joan.

Where is Chock from?

A proud midwestern man, Chock hails from Wichita, Kansas. Having always lived in the state, Chock’s LinkedIn bio says that he grew up in the small town of Garden Plain, Kansas. In that bio, he also mentioned having lived in Wichita for over three decades.

Taking Joan to his buddy’s farm in Kansas during his hometown date, Joan got to meet everyone Chock holds dear. She even met his late fiancée Kathy’s dad, who gave him some advice. Throughout her time with Chock in his native state, she intimately got to know him. For one portion of the date, Joan attended a memorial service for his mom. She died while he was on the show.

What does Chock do for a living?

On the show, Chock said he was an insurance executive. He comes from a long list of family members in that industry, including his father and grandfather. Now, his kids are also going in that same direction as both are in the insurance field.

Does Chock have a family?

He has two adult kids with his ex-wife. His 24-year-old daughter was the one who signed him up to go on The Golden Bachelorette. Chock is also close to his son. His two children are named Taylor and Tyler. Another member of his family is his dog, Super Tubbs.

Taylor attended Kansas State University like her father, while Tyler received an education at the University of Kansas. Chock has a tight bond with his kids and often posts photos with them on social media.

Married once before for 12 years, Chock only has good things to say about the mother of his children. On his first one-on-one date with Joan, he explained that they just weren’t a good fit. He called his ex-wife a “good person and I wish her the best.”

He was engaged after that to a woman he holds very dear in his heart, Kathy. She, unfortunately, passed away in January 2022 after struggling with brain cancer for five months. Opening up about the loss, Chock told Joan, “We were together for nine years and we were engaged and we had plans to be together.”

Sharing more about his loss, he said, “I’ve been through some things in my life, but I never had anyone die in my arms. It was heartbreaking. It was the only time I really showed vulnerability, where I broke down. And I started crying and you go, ‘Why couldn’t it be me? Why is this happening to you?’”

But just like Joan, he had experienced a parting gift from his significant other, “So about a month out, Kathy sat me down, and she goes, ‘I want you to go on with your life.’ That’s one of the biggest reasons I’m here.”
