Paul Mescal Finally Addresses Those Rumors He Runs Away From One-Night Stands
“F**king hell,” Paul Mescal told GQ. The Hollywood hunk laughed while opening up about the rumors that were spread on TikTok late last year. With countless videos that popped up about Mescal’s dating adventures, “a categorically untrue” narrative was spread, according to the Normal People star.
The rumor that made rounds around the internet was that Mescal had a signature move he used after his one-night stand adventures. Often in his teensy running shorts, it was said that he would take women to public places after spending an evening together, and when they would least expect it, he would run off in the opposite direction.
This story was quickly amplified by many women on the social media app. Mescal, who doesn’t have any public profiles, has seen the videos about his alleged behavior. Watching those TikToks together with his siblings, Nell and Donnacha, the Irish actor revealed that they found them to be hilarious. “We were looking at the videos and we were pissing ourselves at it,” he began, before doubling down, “We were laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing.”
Yet, there was an important person in his life who didn’t like the situation as much. That someone was his mom: Dearbhla Mescal.
“The one thing that upset me was that I was in the kitchen, I remember my mum looking at the videos and she was getting upset. Isn’t that devastating?” he told GQ. “I was like, oh, it’s funny to us — my brother, me, my sister — because we know that this is the way the internet works. It’s hilarious. If it was true, it’d be f**king bad, but as a rumor, it’s funny.”
Mescal did reflect that he understood why his mom would take the rumors personally. He added, “Then I was like, oh, if you’re a mother, her impulse is to come out and be like, ‘He wouldn’t do this.’”
Besides the funny rumor, he didn’t want to open up about his personal life anymore. With speculations that he is dating singer Gracie Abrams, Mescal made it clear that he doesn’t want to confirm or deny anything.
Having previously been in a public relationship with singer Phoebe Bridgers, the Gladiator 2 lead mentioned, “I’ve learned that there’s certain lines in the sand now for me that just are going to be impenetrable for the benefit of my own sanity, but also the benefit of my work.”
Further explaining, “Because I think if you don’t have those boundaries up in terms of lines in the sand in regards to your private life, people know way too much about you and then they can’t invest in the imagined landscape of your character because they know what your favorite thing to eat for breakfast is.”
He knows that his fans and others alike have been obsessed about this intel by stating that it “has been mad” for him to experience.
