Married since 1988, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick will soon go into their fourth decade of love.

With plenty of social media evidence to prove that they are Hollywood’s golden couple, it’s hard to believe that the two actors ever fight. But, apparently, they occasionally do. Sometimes, their arguments even cause them to make a fundamental change in the marriage.

While living on their Connecticut farm Bacon has owned since 1983, the family of four was suddenly outgrowing the slow pace in the 1990s. The Footloose actor had bought the farm before he met Sedgwick, and he described it to Esquire as a “rundown little farmhouse with a tiny little wood stove.”

When he met Sedgwick, Bacon said “she was willing to fold into all that for a while.” They were “living in Connecticut to raise our kids.” But all of that changed when their son, Travis, was about six years old.

“Kyra went, ‘Guess what? I’m done.’ It was reverse Green Acres. She was like, ‘I want to go have lunch with my friends. I want to be able to go to Bergdorf’s,'” the 66-year-old confessed. “I’m making her sound very shallow, but she’s not that way at all. Really, she just felt very isolated.”

The couple had their biggest fight over their living situation. They eventually decided to split their time between New York City and Connecticut. “Once again, [Sedgwick was] 100 percent right. It was the best thing for our children. It was the best thing for our marriage. It was the best thing, even from a real-estate-investment standpoint,” he admitted.

Bacon and Sedgwick formally met on the set of the PBS TV film Lemon Sky, but they actually crossed paths years earlier. When Bacon was 19, he was doing an Off-Broadway play. At the time, Sedgwick was 12 and came to see one of his shows. They ran into each other at a deli nearby, and Bacon revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that his now-wife “did not like” him at first. “It was not love at first sight,” he said. Thankfully, he made a better impression years later!
